Opening your life to God’s Word on a consistent basis over a long period of time will slowly but surely begin to shape your thoughts, perspective, attitudes, and actions. You will start out just reading God’s Word and it will eventually begin to read you! God’s truth will challenge you and help you to see as God sees! Watch how God’s perspective will begin to influence you in ways you never imagined! Stick with the plan! Open your heart to God and He will transform you from the inside out!
In His Love,
“But I will stay in Ephesus until Pentecost, because a great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me.” 1 Corinthians 16:8
If I was reading Paul’s letter to my church in Corinth, I would rejoice when he says a door of great opportunity to do God’s work has opened. Maybe a nice location…..or a church with excellent facilities? Maybe a place with lots of unchurched people? I love great opportunities! But wait….. “there are many who oppose me”? Paul………are you sure this is such a good opportunity?
Somewhere along the way, fear has become more of a decision maker in ministries than the opportunities to reach unchurched people for Christ! Many churches and leaders never turn the corner on reaching the lost because of fear or opposition. They see giants in the Promised Land, so they retreat. The see a “goliath” and they tuck their sling and go home. Opposition does not seem to phase Paul. Why? Because God has opened a door of opportunity! If fear becomes my decision-maker, I will forever be walking away from meaningful and God-given opportunities for the Kingdom. Gideon faced the Midianites! Joshua marched around the walls of Jericho. Moses faced Pharoah! Esther chose to go into the King’s chamber in order to save her people! Nehemiah faced physical threat and ridicule in rebuilding the wall around Jerusalem! Daniel prayed to God when it was “illegal” and wound up facing the den of lions and Noah built the ark while people laughed. Jesus went to the cross. Great opportunities often come at great costs!
Lord, when it comes to great opportunities to serve you, help me to have enough courage and boldness to do what is right, regardless of the cost. Do not let my fears keep me from doing Your will today! Amen.
