Daily Devotional:Qualifications

By Jerry Sweat on February 22, 2012

Opening your life to God’s Word on a consistent basis over a long period of time will slowly but surely begin to shape your thoughts, perspective, attitudes, and actions. You will start out just reading God’s Word and it will eventually begin to read you! God’s truth will challenge you and help you to see as God sees! Watch how God’s perspective will begin to influence you in ways you never imagined! Stick with the plan! Open your heart to God and He will transform you from the inside out!

In His Love,
Pastor Jerry

Scripture

So now, go.  I am sending you to Pharoah to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.  But Moses said to God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharoah to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt?  And God said, “I will be with you.”
Exodus 3:10-12

Observation

It is not uncommon for our first response to God’s call upon our lives to serve Him to be one of feeling unqualified.  To be employed by the Creator of the Universe? To be a part of something that will affect the course of eternity in people’s lives? Surely our resume doesn’t quite cut it! I’m not smart enough! I’m not strong enough! I have never done anything like this! Surely there are others who are more qualified than me!  This is more than I can handle! Moses was a Jew by birth.  He was a murderer, a fugitive, and had a speaking problem.  “Who am I that I should go to Pharoah…” makes complete sense!  Then God responds with those words that qualify the call of the unqualified:  “I will be with you.”  If you think about it, every person used by God in the Bible came with flaws, brokenness, and inadequacies.  They questioned just like we do.  They simply made the decision to trust God and His call more than their questions.

Application

The invitation to become a part of God’s mission in the world today will always cause us to tremble at our own qualifications.  Step out anyway!  With God’s strength and power, all things are possible.  Jesus took a ragtag group of uneducated and broken men and started a revolution that changed the world! God does not call the qualified; He qualifies the called!  Today, in the midst of my own reservations about me, I will step out anyway to serve in whatever way I can for His glory!  Through His strength and my willingness to trust and step out, I can be confident that God will continue to change the world…..even through me!

Prayer

God, You are my strength!  Thank You for inviting me to be a part of something that will impact the world for eternity!  Thank You for giving me the opportunity to serve even though I have questions about my qualifications.  Help me to step out and rely on You! Amen!
