Daily Devotional:UTR - Unite Day 6

By Jerry Sweat on January 21, 2012

Opening your life to God’s Word on a consistent basis over a long period of time will slowly but surely begin to shape your thoughts, perspective, attitudes, and actions. You will start out just reading God’s Word and it will eventually begin to read you! God’s truth will challenge you and help you to see as God sees! Watch how God’s perspective will begin to influence you in ways you never imagined! Stick with the plan! Open your heart to God and He will transform you from the inside out!

In His Love,
Pastor Jerry

Scripture

The LORD said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west. All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever. I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted. Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you.”
Genesis 13: 14-17

Observation

At  75, Abraham was called by God to go….to leave what was familiar and move his entire family and household to a land that God would show him.  To his credit, Abraham obeys God’s calling on his life.  When he arrives in the land, God tells him to open his eyes to the land that God has given him.  God calls him to walk the land that God has given him.  In that place, he builds an altar of worship to the Lord.  While there is no such thing as prayer walking in scripture (or at least specifically spelled out), people have practiced this means of prayer for years.  After pursuing with obedience the call of God upon his life, Abraham is instructed by God to open his eyes to the place God has called him to fulfill the mission of building his family to be used of God to “bless all peoples of the earth” (Genesis 12: 1-3).  A posture of prayer walking gives us the opportunity to walk in the places God has called us to and open our eyes to the mission He has for us in that place.

Application

Today, just do a prayer walk early in the morning or late at night through your home.  Your family is one of God’s greatest mission fields in your life.  As you walk through your home, pray for each family member.  Look at family pictures on the wall and give God thanks for the special people He has placed in your life.  Sit at the dinner table and begin to ask God how he might begin to use you to develop deeper relationship with your spouse, parent, son, or daughter.  Go to the place where your family spends most of their time together and begin to pray how God might use you to take the lead on modeling who He is to those in your family who might not know Him or might feel distant from their relationship with the Lord.  Ask God that He might reveal to you what is impacting the heart of each family member today and deepen your understanding of how you can best love them and serve them. Write down your prayers.
